Former India’s women cricketer Anjum Chopra picked two key players expected to play crucial roles under captain Rohit Sharma in the ICC World Cup 2023. Anjum Chopra emphasized that Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill could make a significant impact.

Shubman Gill, currently in the form of his life, is expected to open with Rohit in the showpiece event at home. The right-handed batter has scored 1230 runs in 20 innings at an impressive average of 72.35, including five centuries and five half-centuries in 2023.

Virat Kohli started the World Cup year on a high note, smashing two centuries in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He scored 612 runs in 13 innings at an average of 55.64 and a strike rate of 112.92, including an unbeaten 122 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023.

In a conversation with The Times of India, Anjum Chopra emphasized the significance of Virat Kohli’s world-class abilities and the promise of Shubman Gill in the batting department.

“Rohit himself. Apart from that, if I look towards the batting side, I would obviously feel that Virat Kohli. He’s obviously a world-class player. You just say Virat Kohli and you can just keep adding the reasons behind this.”

“Apart from Virat Kohli, I also say Shubman Gill. These two players (Virat and Gill) can really make strong impressions. Of course, Shubman idolises Virat. Virat has reminded us repeatedly how good he is,” Anjum told TOI.

The Contribution Of The All-Rounders Will Be Immense – Anjum Chopra

The former Indian skipper emphasized that all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will play crucial roles in bolstering the team’s bowling efforts.

“If you look at the bowling front, I’ll still say that, the contribution of the all-rounders – both Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja – will be immense,” she further added.

Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be the second spinner and the fifth bowling option for India in the marquee tournament. Hardik Pandya could provide valuable overs as the sixth bowler and a fast bowling option for the team.
