Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin gave an epic reply to a fan who took a dig at him over Shahid Afridi’s sixes to him during the Asia Cup 2014. The off-spinner admitted that the former Pakistan skipper hit some good strokes against him.

One of the most famous games of the Asia Cup 2014 took place between India and Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Bangladesh. India were cruising to the win and it was expected that they would win as they had their arch-rivals down.

The game went down to the wire but Shahid Afridi produced two magnificent sixes against Ravichandran Ashwin to win the game for Pakistan and eliminate India from the tournament. The Men in Green won the game by the barest of margins as they were almost out of the game.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently posted about his interaction with Dinesh Karthik, who is part of the commentary panel for the ICC World Cup 2023. However, a fan took a jibe at him on that and made him recall those sixes, saying “Shahid Afridi still remembers those sixes.”

Replying to this, Ravichandran Ashwin said: “Those were really good shots, man.
Really admired him as a great ball striker.”

Ravichandran Ashwin got selected into the India squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. He replaced the injured Axar Patel in the team. The off-spinner displayed a great performance in the series against Australia and impressed selectors.

“I worked with Sairaj at NCA, working on different angles and different grips – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin recently revealed the changes that he made ahead of the Australia series at NCA. He admitted that he should’ve made those changes earlier in his career. He explained:

“I worked with Sairaj at NCA, working on different angles and different grips. He said there’s a difference in that and I asked him to watch from front and back and we worked on it for 3-4 days. For how much cricket I’ve played over the years, I should’ve done this a long time ago but doing it now at least, I’m glad. At the end of the day when the batsman is deceived, it’s a great ball, that’s all you are hoping for as a bowler.”

Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to play a huge role with the ball in the ICC World Cup 2023. India will open their campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
