Sanju Samson Should Change His Attitude - S Sreesanth Sees The Omission Of Wicketkeeper-Batter From India's World Cup 2023 Squad As The Right Decision

Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth opened up about the exclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson from the squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. S Sreesanth said that Sanju Samson needs to work on his attitude and listen to the legendary cricketers’ advice.

Sanju Samson wasn’t included in the squad for the ODI series against Australia, despite the absence of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the first two games. Notably, the right-handed batter was with the Indian squad during the recently concluded Asia Cup.

Sanju Samson Doesn’t Listen – S Sreesanth

In an interview with Sportskeeda, S Sreesanth backed the selectors’ decision to exclude Sanju Samson, saying that it was the right decision. Sreesanth suggested that Samson should approach his innings according to the match conditions.

“I think it’s the right decision because it’s very important for a player to understand himself,” Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.

“From Gavaskar sir to Harsha Bhogle sir and Ravi Shastri sir, everyone rates him highly. There’s no doubt about his ability. But the approach… he doesn’t listen when someone asks him to play according to pitch. He can change that attitude.”

Samson represented India in 13 ODIs and scored 390 runs with an impressive average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104. Suryakumar Yadav, who has an average of 25.52 after 28 ODIs, has been preferred over Samson in the squad for the World Cup at home.

Sreesanth, who hails from Kerala, said that Malayi people supported Sanju Samson to excel in international cricket. However, Sreesanth pointed out that Samson has had chances to prove himself in various matches.

“Malyali log jo unko support karte hai bolte hai ki chances nahi mil raha hai. Hum nahi bol skte aisa. Kyuki Ireland against regular chances mile, itne saare matches khele unhone, IPL mein pichle 10 saal se khel rahe hai. Pr Consistency nahi dikhayi.”

“Sanju agar aap sunn rahe ho toh aapko bahut sare runs score karna padega aur consistently score karna padega. Kabhi bhi ye mat socho ki aapko mauka nahi mil raha. Aapko mauka jarur mil raha hai. You are not a youngster anymore. You are getting older every day. You are not a 19-year-old; you are going to be 35 in no time,” he concluded.
