The Indian Selection Committee selected a 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup which was announced on 10th September. The selection was under a lot of scrutiny for excluding the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, and Yuzvendra Chahal but Axar Patel picked up an injury during the Asia Cup 2023 and Ashwin replaced him in the squad.
However, Yuvraj Singh has criticized the selectors for not picking up a player who could have been useful in Indian conditions.
Yuvraj Singh talked about the mistake that the Indian Selection Committee made by not picking up Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad. Chahal was in good form and could’ve been the ‘ace of spades’ for the Indian side in this World Cup.
Yuvraj talked about Chahal’s performance and how the leg-spinner could’ve been dangerous on slower wickets.
Yuzvendra Chahal has picked up 141 wickets in 72 ODIs that he played for India. The Indian team that is going to be a part of the World Cup is missing a leg-break bowler and Yuzvendra Chahal would’ve added a variety to the team given that he bowls leg-break and is a very versatile bowler.
Yuvraj Singh Talked About The Importance Of A Leg Spinner In The Team
“Leaving out Yuzvendra Chahal could be a mistake, could be a worry. At least could have kept him in the squad. A leg-spinner is someone who will always take wickets for you. Kuldeep is doing fantastic. But Chahal could have been dangerous on turning tracks and slower wickets. Hardik giving you the balance of a third seamer, you could have picked Yuzvendra Chahal, Winning the Asia Cup does not guarantee that you will win the World Cup. However, it shows that India is in good form,” said Yuvraj Singh.
Yuzvendra Chahal is currently playing county cricket and he will miss out on the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. He was a part of the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup where the spinner took 12 wickets in eight matches. India will kick off their World Cup campaign against Australia on 8th October in Chennai and before that, they will face defending champions England and the Netherlands in the warm-up matches.
