Former India spinner Dilip Doshi has alleged that fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have not performed well in the past few matches and were only picked in the Indian T20 World Cup 2021 squad purely based on their reputation.

This comes after the Pakistan side decimated the Indian cricket team in their opening match of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli and his men were thrashed by the Pakistan side by 10 wickets to start their campaign on a disappointing note. Doshi said that Pakistan outplayed India in all departments as they registered their first-ever victory over the Men in Blue in World Cup history.

Doshi felt that players like Hardik and Bhuvneshwar haven’t performed to their full potential yet are playing purely on their reputation. He also added that India should not be benching Ravichandran Ashwin, who is their best spinner by far.

“It’s true that some people are playing based on their past reputation. Players like Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar haven’t performed to their full potential for some time now. Ravichandran Ashwin should play every game because he’s the world’s best spinner at present. You cannot afford to drop him,” said Dilip Doshi in a chat with Sportskeeda.

Our Batters Have Regularly Struggled Against Left-Arm Pacers: Dilip Doshi

Furthermore, Doshi also opined that Virat Kohli and other Indian batter displayed poor technique with the bat, and lacked application and common sense. He pointed out how badly Indian batters have performed against left-arm pacers around the world in the last few years.

“We were completely outplayed by Pakistan. They looked a far better side on that particular day. We have to understand why we weren’t effective. Our top-order batters have struggled regularly against left-arm pacers bowling over the wicket over the past few years. The techniques of our batters, barring Virat, were faulty. I would attribute the failure to a lack of application and common sense on the part of our batters,” Doshi concluded.

India will next play New Zealand on 31st October 2021 in Dubai in T20 World Cup 2021, in what is a virtual knockout match for both the teams who have lost their first matches, incidentally to Pakistan.
