Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta said that India and Bangladesh teams were the biggest disappointment in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Virat Kohli-led Indian team could not make it to the semi-final round of the tournament after they finished third on the points table of Group 2.

India lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games before they won their remaining fixtures against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia.

On the other hand, Bangladesh came into the tournament on back to back T20I series win against Australia and New Zealand at home.

The Tigers also managed to qualify for the Super 12 stage despite going down to Scotland in the first match of the qualifiers round.

Unfortunately, Bangladesh lost all of their group fixtures in Group 1 without giving enough fight.

“India was obviously disappointing, especially in the first two matches then there was a turnaround. Another team that disappointed me throughout the tournament was Bangladesh,” Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.

“When the competition started, they were ranked No.6 in the world. Conditions were also helpful for them, it was an experienced team, but the way they dragged themselves to the Super 12s and then were average at best,” he added.

Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in their opening game of the T20 World Cup in what was their first win against their neighbours in any World Cup game.

Dasgupta recalled the moment when Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan hugged each other. The former Indian player said that it was his favourite moment of the tournament.

“For me, the moment of the tournament was the aftermath of India vs Pakistan match when Virat Kohli congratulated Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan because it is a high-pressure match, the first match, and Ind lost to a very deserving Pakistan Side.

“That moment just tells you that, it is just a sport and it is beyond everything else. It was a very warm gesture from Virat. Very friendly and informal. Especially, that picture with Mohammad Rizwan (hugging Kohli) is still in my mind. For me, that is what sport is about and cricket is about,” Dasgupta mentioned.

India will play New Zealand in the three-match T20I series while Bangladesh will host Pakistan for three T20Is.
