Several players dished out outstanding performances in the tournament and in this article, here’s a look at our Best XI of the Super 12 stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Best XI Of The Super 12 Stage
Openers: Jos Buttler and Babar Azam
Both the batsmen have been the biggest reasons behind their team’s success in the tournament. Jos Buttler and Babar Azam have been two of the most consistent batsmen in the tournament. Buttler has scored the most runs in the tournament, while Babar Azam sits second in the list. Jos Buttler is the only batsman to have scored a century in the tournament, while Babar Azam has hit four half-centuries.
Middle-Order: Charith Asalanka, Rassie Van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram
Charith Asalanka is one of the biggest positives Sri Lanka can take out from the tournament. He dished out outstanding performances with the bat. His intent and range of shots were there to see.
Asalanka began his Super 12 campaign with a match-winning 80-run knock off 49 balls and remained consistent throughout the tournament. He is currently the third-highest run-getter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The other two batsmen in the middle-order have to be the South African duo of Rassie Van der Dussen and Aiden Markram.
Both of them made a significant contribution with the bat and almost took their team to the semi-finals. The last game of South Africa in the Super 12 saw Van der Dussen playing a sensational 60-ball 94. Aiden Markram, on the other hand, notched 52 off just 25 balls.
All-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Wanindu Hasaranga
As for the all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Wanindu Hasaranga should be the must-haves. Both were impressive in the tournament, particularly with the ball. Hasaranga looked threatening with the ball in all the matches of the Super 12 stage. Every time the team was in trouble, he would put his hand up and pick wickets.
Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the three bowlers who picked a hat-trick in the tournament. Jadeja had a poor outing with the ball in the first two games, however, he made great returns in the last three matches. Hasaranga is currently the highest wicket-taker, with 16 wickets under his belt. Jadeja, on the other hand, picked 7 wickets in 5 matches played in the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup 2021.
Bowlers: Tim Southee, Adam Zampa, Anrich Nortje and Shaheen Shah Afridi
Tim Southee has been terrific with his lines and lengths throughout the tournament. Be it in the powerplay, middle overs or at the death, Southee has been brilliant in all phases of the game.
He has given away runs at less than 6 an over and picked a wicket or two on almost all occasions. Besides, Anrich Nortje and Shaheen Shah Afridi too have been sensational. Both have been the standout bowlers for their respective teams.
Nortje has nine wickets to his name in 5 matches in the Super 12 stage, while Shaheen took 6 wickets in 5 games. Australian spinner, Adam Zampa should complete the Best XI.
He has played a big role in helping Australia reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Zampa has picked wickets consistently in the middle-overs and created pressure from one end. He has picked as many as 11 wickets in 5 matches for Australia in the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup 2021.
