Australian head coach Justin Langer said that opening batsman David Warner is showing good signs and happens to be in a good physical shape.
Australia edged out South Africa by five wickets to start their T20 World Cup campaign on a winning note.
David Warner is in as good physical shape as I’ve ever seen him: Justin Langer
Warner just scored 14 runs off 15 balls smashing three fours to find some rhtym after a disastrous IPL 2021 which led the Australian batsman to sit on the bench for the later part of the tournament.
Although the runs were not substantial looking at Warner’s potential but Langer believes that those were good signs for the team.
“There are some really good signs from Davey ( David Warner) yesterday. I think he pulled Rabada for four, he played a beautiful cover drive, he played a great cut shot, and then one held up on him a bit. But they’re good signs for me,” Langer said in a virtual press conference on Sunday.
“He’s in as good physical shape as I’ve ever seen him so that’s a very positive sign, (I’m) really confident he’ll come good. And Finchy (Finch), I thought one, Finchy’s captaincy was brilliant yesterday. And he’s another one that, he had knee surgery, it might take a little bit of time for him to get moving. He’s working hard in the nets in his preparation. I don’t think it’s so much a mental thing for Finchy,” he added.
Marcus Stoinis-Matthew Wade help Australia finish the game against South Africa
Australia struggled during their chase of 119 against the Proteas and at one stage they were reeling at 83/5 needing 36 runs from the last four overs.
Some brilliant batting by Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade helped the Australians to win the nail-biting contest in the final over by five wickets.
Australia will play their next match against Sri Lanka on October 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
