India A Terrific Side In T20 World Cup 2021; Have Some Serious Match-Winners, Says Steve Smith

Australian player Steve Smith has called India a terrific side for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 with some serious match-winners in the squad. His words arrive after India defeated Australia in a warm-up match on Wednesday. For India, it was a very comfortable victory as they defeated Australia by 9 wickets by chasing the target in just 17.5 overs.

Steve Smith played a good knock in the match. He smacked 57 runs off 48 balls with 7 boundaries and was the highest run-getter for his team. Earlier, Australia defeated New Zealand in a warm-up game by 3 wickets. However, against India, Australia were totally outplayed in the game.

India A Terrific Side In T20 World Cup 2021: Steve Smith

After his half-century in the warm-up match against India, Steve Smith mentioned that he feels India is a terrific side in the T20 World Cup 2021 and has got all their bases covered.

“They’re (India) a terrific side, they’ve got all bases covered and some serious match-winners. They’ve all been playing in these conditions the last couple of months with the IPL. So they’ll be used to that,” Steve Smith said.

“I feel like I’ve been hitting the ball really well. I haven’t played too many games in the IPL but I’ve spent a lot of time in the nets, working on things and getting used to conditions,” Smith further said.

Steve Smith was part of the Delhi Capitals during IPL 2021. However, he could play only a few games for the team. During India vs Australia warm-up match, Australia batted first and put up 152-5 on the scoreboard. The top order got out cheaply, with opener David Warner scoring 1 and his partner Aaron Finch scoring 8. Later, one-down Mitchell Marsh was gone for a duck.

Later, Steve Smith scored 57 runs, and Glenn Maxwell hit a 37-run knock towards the end, Marcus Stoinis also hit an unbeaten 41 from 25 balls to take Australia to 152-5. Ravichandran Ashwin picked 2 wickets for India while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rahul Chahar grabbed 1 wicket each.

Later, India comfortably chased the target. Opener KL Rahul got out for 39 runs and was the only wicket that India lost. Rohit Sharma smacked unbeaten 60 runs while Suryakumar Yadav hit an unbeaten 38. Hardik Pandya also scored unbeaten 14. Ashton Agar was the only Aussie bowler to get a wicket.

Meanwhile, Australia are part of group 1 in ICC T20 World Cup 2021, while India are in group 2. Australia will commence their journey on October 23, when they take on South Africa in the super 12 round. India will begin their journey with the match against Pakistan on October 24.
