Former England captain Michael Vaughan termed India as the ‘hot favorites’ to win the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Vaughan had earlier stated that it didn’t make sense to call India the favorites and he sided with England instead.

However, the warmup matches seem to have changed Vaughan’s mind. India defeated England by six wickets and comprehensively brushed aside Australia by eight wickets to start the preparation for the tournament on the right note.

Almost everything clicked for India, barring a couple of exceptions. The bowling unit fired in tandem, while the batsmen seem to have found their mojo – Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in particular. Following the round of warmup games, India is the favorite, as per Vaughan.

The way India are playing the warm up games suggests they may be now Hot favourites to Win the #T20WorldCup !!!” he wrote on his Twitter account.

The former Ashes-winning skipper also mentioned that Australia doesn’t have a good enough team to progress into the latter half of the tournament. Apart from Glenn Maxwell, none of the other batsmen are in form. As for the bowling, it has majorly blown hot and cold apart from Mitchell Starc.

I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament. But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much,” Vaughan had said.

India begins its campaign with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai.
