India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Deserving Players Who Missed Out. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad with an addition of three reserved players of the Indian team that will participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the October-November window.

Virat Kohli as expected will lead the team with Rohit Sharma named his deputy. Tamil Nadu off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the surprising inclusion for everyone as the player played his last match in the format in 2017 against West Indies.

Mumbai Indians’ duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, who made their international debut against England earlier this year, have been included to bolster India’s middle-order line-up along with Rishabh Pant.

Jasprit Bumrah will lead the bowling attack along with Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy will be supporting Ashwin in the spin department.

3) Shikhar Dhawan

The news of Dhawan missing from the T20 World Cup squad comes as not only shocking but somehow frustrating as the veteran opener was appointed as skipper to lead the side in the limited-overs leg of Sri Lanka in July.

Dhawan was part of the 2016 T20 World Cup squad and is also currently the leading scorer of IPL 2021 with 380 runs from eight matches at the strike rate of 134.27.

Dhawan was also consistently featured in T20I matches for India in the last two years before he was dropped in the five-match T20I series against England at home in March. It seems like KL Rahul would open with Rohit Sharma in the left-hander’s absence.

2) Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the regular players, who played for India in the shortest format and was also part of the team that toured Sri Lanka in July.

Chahal has picked 63 wickets from 49 T20 Internationals for India and he also holds the second-best bowling figures of 6/25, he had scripted a match-turning moment against England in 2017.

Chahal picked seven wickets from four matches he played in Sri Lanka in both formats before he missed as he was under isolation with several other players after Krunal Pandya was found COVID-19 positive.

1) Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav was the go-to man when MS Dhoni used to keep wickets for India and also gained a lot of wickets under the former Indian captain’s presence on the field.

But since Dhoni retired from the game, Kuldeep hasn’t been treated well and was most of the time warming the bench in the Indian team. So Kuldeep’s exclusion from the World Cup squad wasn’t shocking in comparison to the other two.

Kuldeep along with Chahal used to bowl in tandem in the middle overs and would restrict the flow of runs from the opposition’s camp on most of the occasions but having got very few games to play since the COVID-19 pandemic, the left-arm wrist-spinner could not justify his selection.
