India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Players Who Were Selected On The Basis Of Their IPL 2021 Performance. The Indian squad for the T20 World cup 2021 was announced yesterday by the BCCI and the performances from IPL have also been considered during the selection. Three reserves were also announced including the 15 member squad and there was no place for the regulars like Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvzendra Chahal considering the balance of the side.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin’s recent performances in the IPL over the last two years earned him a recall into the limited-overs setup for India after almost three years. Axar Patel was another name in the squad that was surprising as Krunal Pandya was expected to get the nod ahead of him. Here are 3 players who were selected on the basis of their IPL 2021 performance.
India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Players Who Were Selected On The Basis Of Their IPL 2021 Performance
Suryakumar Yadav:
Suryakumar Yadav recently made his T20 international debut for India in the home series against England and he was impressive from the start of his international career. The right-hander has been one of the consistent performers in the IPL circuit and he definitely earned a place in the Indian squad. He scored 173 runs in the 7 games he played in IPL 2021 and was the second-highest run-getter from the franchise which played in tough spin conditions.
Suryakumar Yadav also finished as the man of the series in the ODI series in Sri Lanka and his ability to take on the bowling from the word go is something extraordinary. He will play a big role for India in the future and in the T20 Worldcup for sure. He is a brilliant fielder as well and he brings a lot of value to the side. His IPL 2020 performance in UAE was good as well to be ignored.
Rahul Chahar:
Rahul Chahar got the nod ahead of Yuvendra Chahal for the T20 World cup squad and there wasn’t much need for another leg spinner in the squad as well. With two left-arm spinners, one mystery spinner, and one leg spinner, the squad was almost complete with no room for Yuzvendra Chahal. Rahul Chahar has been very impressive for the Mumbai Indians taking a lot of wickets in the IPL 2021 and IPL 2020.
He recently played the T20I series against Sri Lanka and he extracted more spin than any other spinner. He looked too good to be left out of the squad and certainly he is one of the big prospects for the future as well. He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021 already with 11 wickets in 7 games and deserves a place in the T20 World cup squad as well.
Varun Chakravarthy:
Varun Chakravarthy’s ability to bowl with the new ball as well as in the death overs gives a lot more options for Virat Kohli and he could be the surprise package in the T20 Worldcup for India. He picked up 7 wickets in the 7 games played in this IPL along with 17 wickets in the 13 games last year. He certainly earned his spot in the T20 Worldcup for India.
