Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg feels that Babar Azam-led Pakistan will not make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup if they lose to India.

India and Pakistan will lock horns with each other after more than five years in T20I cricket when they play their first game of the Super 12 stage on October 24 in Dubai.

India vs Pakistan match- The centre of attention

Pakistan are paired with India, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Scotland, and one more team yet to be qualified in the Group 2.

Because of the political tensions between the two countries, both teams do not play bilateral series amongst each other anymore, and they only meet during ICC or Asia events.

Pakistan won their first warm-up game against defending champions West Indies but lost to South Africa in a nail-biting run-chase in the next match.

Meanwhile, India turned out to be victorious against England and Australia in both of their warm-up matches.

India vs Pakistan: Brad Hogg says it is a decisive game for Pakistan

Hogg, who last played for Australia in the 2014 T20 World Cup, is of the opinion that it will be a difficult task for Pakistan to qualify for the knockout stage if they lose against India in their opening game.

The former Australian spinner also predicted that England and West Indies will make it to the semis from Group 1, which also includes Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

“If Pakistan get beaten by India in the first game, they’ve got a short turnaround to play New Zealand. I think that will be a huge factor on whether Pakistan go through or not. If Pakistan lose against India in the first game, I don’t think they will get through, India will get through. So watch that space,” Hogg told Deep Dasgupta on the latter’s YouTube channel.

“The teams that I think are going to go to the semis are England and the West Indies from Group 1 and from Group 2 I think it’s going to be Pakistan and India,” he added.

Pakistan have never won against India and have lost five times in past against them in the T20 World Cup.
