England all-rounder Ben Stokes called his teammate Jos Buttler as the best player in the world. Buttler’s incredible knock of 101* guided England to a good score of 163/4 against Sri Lanka on Monday.

Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga posed heavy blows on England, getting the wickets of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow as England were reeling at 37/3 at the end of Powerplay overs.

Buttler joined forces with skipper Eoin Morgan and handled the pressure in a very tranquil state of mind, didn’t took much risks and went very smoothly in his business.

Buttler smashed six fours and as many sixes during the course of his brilliant knock that saved England from a massive batting collapse.

The England wicketkeeper-batter dispatched a full toss by Dushmantha Chameera for a six over deep backward square leg to register his maiden T20I hundred.

England added 116 runs in the last 10 overs, with Buttler scoring 77 of those. Stokes, who missed the T20 World Cup because of his long break from cricket, called Buttler the best in the world.

“Best in the world @josbuttler,” Stokes tweeted.

England bowlers led by Moeen Ali (2/15) bowled exceptionally well to bowl out Sri Lanka for 137.

Adil Rashid (2/19) and Chris Woakes also complemented Moeen to defend their total successfully. This was also the fourth instance in the tournament where a team batting first won.

England won their fourth game in a row and, without any doubt, will qualify for the semi-final stage ahead.

Buttler was awarded as the Player of the Match, and the England vice-captain said being patient was the key factor during his knock.

“I think staying patient was the key (when England lost early wickets), but I managed to get a partnership with Morgan. I found it really tough early on in the innings. There was a point when we were thinking to get to the 120-run mark, but then we got going and got 160-plus,” Buttler said in the post-match presentation.

England will play their final group stage match against South Africa on November 6 in Sharjah.
