New Zealand defeated Namibia in their previous game. Batting first in the match, New Zealand piled up 163-4 on the scoreboard. Glenn Phillips hit 39 runs while James Neesham scored 35. Later, Namibia could only reach 111-7 in 20 overs and lost the match by 55 runs.

Afghanistan lost to India in their previous match. Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 210-2. KL Rahul slammed 69 runs while Rohit Sharma smacked 74 runs for India. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant also contributed 35 and 27 respectively.

Later, Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat scored good knocks of 35 and 42 for Afghanistan. Their top-order batsmen could not score good knocks. As a result, Afghanistan reached 144-7 in the end and lost the match by 66 runs. Since Afghanistan and New Zealand have never played a T20I match against each other before, there are no head-to-head records between them to talk about.
