Pakistan and Namibia are set to take on each other in the 31st match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Tuesday. Pakistan’s performance in their first three matches obviously makes them favourites to win this clash.
They have beaten all three toughest sides in group B. In their opening match against India, they stunned everyone to earn a 10-wicket win. They carried on their winning run against New Zealand as well after beating them by 5 wickets. In their last game against Afghanistan, they exhibited another all-round performance to earn their third consecutive win of the tournament.
All the players have made valuable contributions to the team. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf have been brilliant as far as the pace department is concerned. Besides, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim have been quite accurate with their lengths and gave the batsmen very little to work with.
Their only worry right now is Hasan Ali’s poor run in the tournament. However, with the team winning matches, they wouldn’t be fretting on that too much.
Babar Azam and M Rizwan has been brilliant at the top. Fakhar Zaman (30 off 25) also played a decent knock in the last game against Afghanistan. However, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if their middle-order fell apart someday. Senior members, M Hafeez and Shoaib Malik haven’t inspired a lot of confidence with the bat.
And, Pakistan could have lost their last two games had Asif Ali not played match-winning cameos in the end. Pakistan would be wanting both Hafeez and Malik to take some responsibility on their shoulders and hopefully get back to form before playing the semi-finals.
On the other hand, Namibia are coming off a disappointing 62-run defeat at the hand of Afghanistan. They were outstanding in the first round and also began their super 12 stages with a win against Scotland. However, Gerhard Erasmus and Co. looked clueless in all departments of the game in the last game against Afghanistan. The manner in which they lost the game would have shattered their confidence.
A brilliant batting effort from the team helped Afghanistan post a 160-run total in the first innings. Namibia, in reply, were bundled out for a paltry 98-run total in the second innings, thereby losing the game by 62 runs. David Wiese top-scored for the side, scoring 26 runs off 30 deliveries. Ahead of their third game in the Super 12 stage against Pakistan, they would be hoping to exhibit better performance in all facets of the game.
