South African batsman Faf du Plessis termed Pakistan as the clear favourites ahead of England and Australia to win the ongoing T20 World Cup. He also expressed his desire to see the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand go the distance.

The Kiwis have come close to winning a white-ball ICC tournament on multiple occasions but have fallen agonizingly short. As for the Pakistan team, they are the only undefeated side in the T20 World Cup, and du Plessis expects them to continue their form.

Pakistan is the favorite to win it but I hope New Zealand can go all the way. They [New Zealand] have come so close to bagging an ICC trophy in recent years so I do hope they can win it.

Winning four out of five games is a big achievement the team should feel proud of their efforts. The bowling unit was exceptional and it won’t be wrong to say that it was one of the best attacks of the tournament,” du Plessis stated in an interview with a local channel.

I expected it – Faf du Plessis on his axing from the South African squad for T20 World Cup

The experienced Faf du Plessis was left out of South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup, but he revealed that he was prepared for it. The management decided to stick with the team that had played the earlier Sri Lankan series instead of bringing du Plessis back.

It is not my decision to make but I had an idea that I am not in consideration for the T20 World Cup. I expected it when I wasn’t selected for the Sri Lankan tour. My expectations were that I wasn’t going to go to the World Cup, even though my performances in the IPL were exceptional.

For me, it is about doing what I like, which is playing cricket, and I have the opportunity to play around the world. It is a question that is very difficult for me to answer in terms of yes or no, but the fact that I wasn’t at the T20 World Cup suggests no,” he added.

South Africa won four out of five matches but bowed out of the tournament owing to their weaker net run rate compared to Australia and England.
