Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has given his support to the out-of-form duo of David Warner and Eoin Morgan and backs them to come good during the T20 World Cup.

In IPL 2021, Warner scored 195 runs in 8 matches, but at a strike rate of 107 and the England captain averaged 11 with the bat, scoring at less than run-a-ball. While Morgan did manage to lead KKR to the final, Warner was sacked as SRH captain mid-season.

Recently, the England captain said that he would even drop himself if his dismal form with the bat affected his team’s chances of lifting the trophy.

Shane Warne feels both the left-handers are high-quality batsmen and either of them may even end up as the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup.

“Ps Whoever wants to write of @davidwarner31 & @Eoin16 re their lack of form. Remember class is permanent & form is temporary – don’t be surprised if one of these players will be player of the tournament #ICCT20WorldCup2021 ! Who will win followers ?” Shane Warne tweeted.

Shane Warne named England and India as favourites

Shane Warne picked England and India as his two favourites to lift the T20 World title. He also pointed out that New Zealand have done well in the past few ICC tournaments.

England and India come into the World Cup as the top two ICC T20I ranked teams, boasting several match-winners. New Zealand, the World Test Champions, were the runners-up in the last two ODI World Cups and reached the semi-final of the 2016 T20 World Cup.

The legendary leg-spinner also warned other teams to be wary of Australia, who, he believes, are being “underestimated” because of their poor T20 form – Australia have lost their last five T20I series. He further added that Pakistan and defending champions West Indies are other firm contenders.

“I think Eng & India have to go in as fav’s for the T/20 WC. NZ always perform well in @ICC events too. But I have a feeling the Aussies are being underestimated as they have a lot of match winners in their squad. Then you have Pakistan & the Wi. Excited to see who will win,” he further tweeted.

The Super 12 stage starts on Saturday with Australia taking on South Africa before England meet West Indies. India-Pakistan clash is set for Sunday.
