T20 World Cup 2021: Shakib Al Hasan Equals Shahid Afridi's Record For Most Wickets In T20WCs

Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan now has 39 wickets in T20 World Cups and he has equalled the record of former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi for the most wickets in the mega event.

Shakib Al Hasan has picked 39 T20 World Cup wickets in just 28 games at an average of 16.41 economy of 6.38 and strike rate of 15.4. He also has three 4-wicket hauls in his bag in the T20 World Cups.

Talking about Shahid Afridi, he picked 39 T20 World Cup wickets in 34 matches at an average of 23.25 economy of 6.71 and strike rate of 20.7.

The third player in the list of most wickets in the T20 World Cups is legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga (38 Wickets). Meanwhile, Other than Shakib no active cricketer has more than 30 wickets in T20 World Cups. The active cricketer closest to Shakib in the list is West Indies’ all-rounder Dwayne Bravo with 25 wickets under his belt.

Recently, the Bangladeshi all-rounder also became the highest wicket-taker in the T20 Internationals surpassing Lasith Malinga. Overall Shakib has 115 T20I wickets in 91 games.

Bangladesh confirmed their berth in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 with an 84-run win over Papua New Guinea. They have 4 points and a net run rate of +1.733. However, it has not been finalised which group they will join.

With Bangladesh making it into the Super12s left-arm spinner Shakib will get to play at least 5 matches and he can easily overtake Afridi as the leading wicket-taker.

In the match against P.N.G Shakib made 46 runs off 28 balls and Bangladesh posted an impressive total of 181-7. Meanwhile, with the ball in hand, he bagged 4 wickets by giving only 9 runs which helped Bangladesh bowl out P.N.G for 97 in 19.3 overs.
