Senior England leg-spinner Adil Rashid has asked his teammate bowlers to be wary of the challenge of bowling with a wet ball during the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Adil Rashid, who returned with figures of 3/18 in the warm-up match against New Zealand on Wednesday, highlighted that the dew could play a significant role in the night matches. He experienced it first hand during his lone match in the IPL 2021 for Punjab Kings, where he leaked 35 runs in 3 overs.

“We’ve seen it over a period and in the IPL and over here when they do play in the evenings it can get a bit dewy,” Adil Rashid was quoted as saying by ‘The Cricketer’.

“You’ve got to find a way though, you can’t hide behind it whether you’re spin or seam. You’ve got to find a way to overcome that and find a way to bowl in those situations because that will happen,” he added.

England played two warm-up games – losing the first one to India but winning versus New Zealand. Blazing fifties from KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan made light work of England’s total of 188, while the bowlers stepped up in defence of 163 against the Kiwis.

The 33-year-old reckoned bowling with the wet ball in the nets will help the bowlers know what to do in the game when the dew arrives. Adil Rashid is going to be a key player for Eoin Morgan as the ODI World Champions eye a second consecutive title.

“It is mostly about practicing in the nets so when it comes to the game it is much easier for the individual to know that it is a wet ball and I know what I can do. It doesn’t mean you’re necessarily going to nail your skills but it gives you a better chance,” the leg-spinner said.

Having taken confidence and learnings from the warm-up matches, England will take on West Indies, who defeated them in the 2016 final, for their opening encounter of the Super 12 stage. The match will be played in Dubai on Saturday.
