Virender Sehwag believes India have no chance of qualifying for the T20 World Cup semi-finals after their second loss in the tournament on Sunday night.

After conceding a 10-wicket drubbing by the hand of Pakistan a week ago, India suffered an annihilation by New Zealand, who chased down 111 inside 15 overs. This also meant that India continue their losing streak against the Kiwis in World Cups since 2003.

With two losses in two games – and the second one being by a heavy margin which has forced India’s net run rate to dip to -1.609 – India have been pushed to the brink of elimination.

Not only do they need to win their remaining three games by massive margins, but also are hoping for other results to go their way. Virender Sehwag, though, reckons that the way India has played so far won’t reach the semi-final.

“New Zealand have defeated India for the fourth consecutive time in the World Cup. Now even if India wins remaining matches still I don’t think they have chance of qualifying for semifinals,” Virender Sehwag said in his Facebook video.

Despite having one of the most talented pools of players, and having gained experience in the UAE from a month-long IPL stint, India have performed well below expectations.

Virender Sehwag drew parallels between India’s loss to the Kiwis and how Afghanistan blew away Namibia by 62 runs in the afternoon game on Sunday.

“This has not been India’s World Cup by far. Just how Namibia played against Afghanistan, India played in the same way with New Zealand,” the former opener added.

India will next meet Afghanistan on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
