Veteran Aghanistan batsman Asghar Afghan who has announced his retirement from international cricket, has revealed that the team “were hurt too much” after the loss against Pakistan National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, which led to him taking retirement.

Asghar Afghan, ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against Namibia at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi, announced that he will be playing his last international match for Afghanistan on 31st October 2021.

Talking about the Pakistan match, Afghanistan gave a good competition to Babar Azam-led side in the Super 12 encounter on October 29 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium but lost the match by 5 wickets.

Speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports during the innings break, Asghar Afghan was very emotional while talking about his retirement from cricket. He said that he wants to give opportunities to young players in the team and said he has no explanation on why he has decided to retire in the middle of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

I want to give chance to youngsters. I think this is a good opportunity for that. Most people are asking me why now but it’s something I cannot explain,” emotional Asghar Afghab said.

Afghan further added that “there are plenty of memories”, and it’s tough for him to say goodbye to cricket, but he will have to retire.

In the last match, we were hurt too much, and that’s why I decided to retire. There are plenty of memories, it’s difficult for me, but I have to retire,” Afghan added.

In his last international game, Asghar Afghan was able to play a very good knock for team Afghanistan. He was able to score good 31 runs off 23 deliveries, including three fours and one maximum and helped his team post 160 runs against Namibia.
