T20 World Cup 2021: Mohammad Rizwan Was In ICU For 2 Days Before The Semi-Final Clash vs Australia

Pakistan team doctor Najeeb Soomro lauded Mohammad Rizwan for playing for his country in spite of being admitted to ICU two days before the match. Rizwan, who played a spectacular knock during Pakistan vs Australia semi-final clash in ICC T20 World Cup 2021, was admitted to the hospital for two days ahead of the match.

Mohammad Rizwan sustained a severe chest infection on November 9 and was admitted to the hospital. He spent two nights in the ICU for recovery. However, he recovered on time and was fit enough to play for Pakistan in the semi-final match against Australia. In the match, he slammed a 67-run knock in a losing cause.

Mohammad Rizwan Spent Two Nights In ICU Recovering: Pakistan Team Doctor Najeeb Soomro

During the post-match conference of Pakistan vs Australia semi-final clash, Pakistan team doctor Najeeb Somroo revealed that Mohammad Rizwan was admitted to the hospital and spent two nights in the ICU. He also praises the wicketkeeper-batsman for his determination to play for the country.

“Mohammad Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on 9th of November after which he was admitted to the hospital. He spent two nights in the ICU recovering. He made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match.

“We can see his great determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country. And we can see how he performed today,” Najeeb Soomro said.

Soomro also revealed that Rizwan insisted to play the semi-final match against Australia in spite of being a little bit down in health.

“When I saw him, he was a little bit down, but when I asked him about his health he said, ‘no, I will play’. Definitely he’s a team man. The way he played today, it was exceptional. And the way he played today he showed that he’s a team man. And I am very confident about his attitude and his performance,” Soomro further said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan lost to Australia in the semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Batting first, Pakistan piled up 176-4 on the scoreboard. Besides Mohammad Rizwan, who slammed 67, Fakhar Zaman also played a fabulous knock of unbeaten 55 runs. Babar Azam hit 39 runs.

Later, Australia’s David Warner smacked 49 runs. After reaching 96-5, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade slammed an unbeaten 81-run stand to win the match for Australia. Matthew Wade slammed three consecutive sixes in the 19th over to score the winning runs for the team.

On Sunday (November 14), Australia will now face New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2021.
