T20 World Cup 2021: Super 12 Points Table After India vs Namibia

The last match of the Super 12 stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 saw the dead rubber between Group 2 teams Virat Kohli-led India National Cricket Team and Gerhard Erasmus-led Namibia National Cricket Team on Monday, November 8 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Notably, India won the match by 9 wickets by completing the chase in 15.2 overs. This was India’s third consecutive victory of the World Cup however this was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
India were heading into the match with more momentum on their side as they won their last encounter in a dominating manner against Scotland. On the other hand, Namibia were entering the match with a defeat against New Zealand in the previous encounter.

Luckily Virat Kohli who doesn’t have very good luck at toss won the toss and opted to field first. India made one change in the playing XI as they dropped mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and added leg-spinner Rahul Chahar to the XI. Namibia also added Jan Frylinck in the XI as he was fully fit to compete
Namibia openers Michael van Lingen and Stephan Baard started pretty good against India and they looked comfortable out in middle against the Indian bowling unit. They added 31 runs before Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Michael van Lingen in the 5th over. Ravindra Jadeja in the next over dismissed Craig Williams and Namibia ended the powerplay at the score of 34/2.

After that Namibia were not able to survive for long and they lost wickets at regular intervals. At the end of 10 overs, 4 Namibian batters were sent back to the pavilion and they scored 51 runs. The 11th over was not a very good one from India’s point of view as Rahul Chahar gave 11 runs in an over. Then Namibia lost 4 more wickets and smashed 13 runs in 20th over of Mohammed Shami to post 132 runs on the board.
Chasing the target opening duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul went berserk against the Namibian bowlers and they smashed 54 runs in the powerplay overs. After that Rohit Sharma managed to smash a brilliant 56 runs at the strike rate of 151.35 and he was dismissed in the 10th over by Jan Frylinck. In the end, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav marched India towards a comfortable victory.
Meanwhile, This was the last match of Virat Kohli as a captain in T20 Internationals and also the end of the Kohli-Shastri era. As Kohli had announced that he will be stepping down from T20I captaincy after the World Cup and the tenure of Ravi Shastri has come to an end, and Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian cricket team. Also, speaking after the toss Kohli almost confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be taking over the captaincy responsibility.
