T20 World Cup 2021: Tim Southee Becomes 2nd Fast Bowler, Overall 3rd Bowler To Pick 100 Or More T20I Wickets

Veteran New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has become the 2nd speedster to bag 100 T20 Internationals wickets, overall he is only the 3rd bowler in the history of T20 International cricket to pick 100 wickets.

Tim Southee completed the 100 T20 Internationals wickets milestone in the 19th match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 between Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team and Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, on Tuesday, October 26.

Before Southee, legendary Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga and veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan have achieved the 100 T20 Internationals wicket milestone.

In his massively successful career, Lasith Malinga scalped 107 wickets in 84 games at an average of 20.79 economy of 7.42 and strike rate of 16.8. The fast bowling legend was also able to bag two 5-wicket hauls in his career.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan who is regarded as the best cricketer produced by Bangladesh has played 92 T20 International games and bowled 340.3 overs scalping 117 wickets at an average of 19.35 economy of 6.64 and strike rate of 17.4. Shakib has also bagged one 5-wicket haul and four 4-wicket hauls in his enormously successful career.

Tim Southee made his T20 International debut in 2008 against England National Cricket Team at Eden Park, Auckland and he was able to scalp only 1 wicket in his debut game.

Since then Tim Southee has played 84 T20 International games, has bowled 299.2 overs and has bagged 100 wickets at an average of 25.03 economy of 8.36 and strike rate of 17.9. In his enormously successful career, Southee has picked one 4-wicket haul and one 5-wicket haul with his best bowling figure being 5/18. Notably, Southee picked his 100th T20 International wicket in style as he castled the man in red hot form, Babar Azam.
