T20 World Cup 2021: Twitter Reacts As Namibia Register Their First Ever World Cup Win By Defeating Netherlands

Wednesday was a history-making day for Namibia as they registered their first-ever ICC World Cup win by defeating the Netherlands by 6 wickets in Abu Dhabi during their Round 1 encounter at the T20 World Cup 2021.
Both teams lost their opening matches of the tournament two days ago and now a loss for Netherlands today have put them at the brink of elimination while Namibia keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Super 12 stage.
Chasing 165, Namibia got off to a brisk start with a 32-run opening stand between Stephan Baard and Zane Green. But the innings stumbled to 52/3.
David Wiese then brought all his experience into play. The right-hander attacked the Dutch from the onset of his innings, smashing fours and sixes to all parts of Abu Dhabi. He got decent support from Gerhard Erasmus, who hit 32 off 22.
Wiese remained unbeaten on 66 off 40 balls, during his innings he slammed four fours and 5 eye-catching maximums, before JJ Smit finished off the chase with a couple of fours in the 19th over.
The Namibian contingent erupted in jubilation for their historic victory – their first at the senior men’s World Cup stage.
Earlier, after being put in to bat first, Netherlands got off to a good start with the openers Max O’Dowd and Stephan Myburgh adding 42 runs in the powerplay before the latter was dismissed by Jan Frylinck, who’d also dismiss Colin Ackermann for 35. O’Dowd batted till the last over, getting run out for 70 off 56 balls.
Twitter too erupted in celebration of this memorable win for Namibia.

Fantastic win for Namibia. Masterminded by Wiese, that was *exactly* the sort of knock you want from him – controlled, classy, and still properly destructive. Still have plenty of work to get through but with more to come from Smit, they look in great shape now. #T20WorldCup

Namibia was 52 for 3 from 9 overs while chasing 165 runs against Netherlands then David Wiese smashed unbeaten 66 runs from 40 balls including 4 fours and 5 sixes – chase down the target with one over left. What a knock, Wiese.

There’s a reason #Netherlands coach Ryan Campbell said pre-tournament he hated playing #Namibia! They attacked the chase with such intent, made the Dutch panic, and Group A is wide open!#NAMvNED?????#T20WorldCup

Namibia's coach Pierre de Bruyn described their middle order – Erasmus, Wiese and Smit – as the 'bomb squad' in the build-up to #T20WorldCup
Looks like the timer has run out in Abu Dhabi??

What a chase by Namibia, and doing it with ease against the Dutch. Historic first ever win in a World Cup. Congrats @gerharderasmus, @PierredeBruyn2, @albiemorkel and co.

66*(40) from 52-3 in 9. Won the match off his own bat for Namibia. Craig Williams, Jan Frylinck, JJ Smit were all giving more impactful performances coming into the comp. But cometh the hour, cometh the man. The big man steps up when it matters. David Wiese, salutes! #T20WorldCup
