The Pakistan cricket team continued to run rampant in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they registered their fifth successive win in the Super 12 stage. They defeated Scotland by 72 runs to remain the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Set a target of 190, the Scots were never in the run chase after they lost a couple of early wickets. Their run rate was very slow right from the beginning and in a chase of this magnitude, it was never going to cut it.

George Munsey, who had a decent outing against India a couple of nights ago, played a slow 31-ball 17 which left no momentum in the chase. Richie Berrington and Michael Leask tried their best with a 46-run partnership but it wasn’t enough for the Scottish team.

Earlier, Babar Azam’s record 19th fifty of the calendar year and his fourth in the current T20 World Cup set the platform up for Pakistan. Mohammad Hafeez played a nice cameo, scoring a brisk 19-ball 31 that picked up the pace heading into the death overs.

The match-defining knock, however, came from the willow of the 39-year-old Shoaib Malik. After taking a few balls to settle in early on, Malik launched a stunning assault in the last three overs, equaling KL Rahul’s fastest fifty of the tournament.

His 18-ball 54 was studded with one four and six massive hits over the fence and they provided the late boost Pakistan was hoping for. Eventually, the target was too big for Scotland and they surrendered meekly. It was the Green Brigade’s 5th win on the trot while their opponents succumbed to their fifth loss in a row.
