India will head into the T20 World Cup 2022 as one of the favourites to win the title. They were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2021 after back to back losses against Pakistan and New Zealand. Not committing the same mistakes will be on the mind of the Indian players.

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team after taking over from Virat Kohli as the all-format skipper of the Indian team. He has a task at hand at along with the selectors in choosing the best 15 players who will be named in India’s official squad for the T20 World Cup later this year.

Dhawan no longer plays T20 cricket for India. He might not even be included in the Indian squad that will be announced for the mega event. Hence there is a possibility of him announcing his retirement from the format after the end of the tournament. So far he has played 68 T20Is for India scoring 1759 runs with 11 fifties.

Ashwin regularly plays Test cricket for India but does not play T20 cricket regularly. He is included in the Indian squad for the T20I series against West Indies. He also played in the T20 World Cup last year but could not make impactful performances. He might think of retiring from the format if he is not included in the T20 World Cup this year.

Shami recently played in the Test and the ODI series against England. He has been rested from the ODI and T20I series against West Indies. The pacer was a part of the T20 World Cup last year but failed to win games for India. He has played just 17 T20IS for India and might consider retiring from the format to prosper his ODI and Test career.

It is highly likely that Axar Patel might not be a part of India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. He has been a part of India’s ODI and T20I squads in the last two years but might not be considered for the 20-over mega event. He is still not a regular member of the side when the Indian team is at its full-strength. Thus, the left-arm spinner might consider retiring from the format.

Virat Kohli

With so much talk regarding Kohli’s lack of form and whether he needs to retire from T20Is to extend his ODI and Test career, the former Indian skipper might take that route as well. If given a hard thought, Kohli as a batsman has more to offer to India in ODI and Test cricket. He is still among the top batters around the world in all formats. Retiring from the T20 format might just ease off the pressure from him a little bit so that he can concentrate on the other two formats.
