AUS vs IRE: Pat Cummins Is Not A Good T20 Bowler, Believe Tom Moody, Robin Uthappa

Former Australia National Cricket Team player Tom Moody and former India National Cricket Team wicket-keeper Robin Uthappa believe that the premier Aussie pacer Pat Cummins is a phenomenal Test and ODI bowler, but the same can’t be said about him in T20 cricket.
Australia National Cricket Team are currently playing against Ireland National Cricket Team in the 31st match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Australian Test captain Pat Cummins, who has picked up 53 wickets in 48 T20I innings, was once again picked ahead of Kane Richardson in the playing XI despite not being very successful in the ongoing multi-nation tournament.

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo’s programme T20 Time Out after the toss, Tom Moody said the Cummins’ spot in the playing XI would be under threat if Team Australia opt to play two specialist spinners in the playing XI.
“They are backing him [Cummins], but interesting enough, Aaron Finch said at the toss the possibility of playing two spinners. So that would have put Pat Cummins, I would have thought, under threat with his position. That may have something to do with the dryness on the surface that was discussed in the pitch report.
“I don’t mind the idea of two spinners because Australia have also got the all-rounders. Now, Mitch Marsh is bowling again. You have got [Marcus] Stoinis who can bowl. So you’ve got plenty of pace options or medium-pace options,” former Australian cricketers said.
In T20 cricket, I don’t think he is as good as his reputation in the other formats – Tom Moody on Pat Cummins
The 57-year-old further said that Cummins is not as good a bowler in T20 cricket as he is in the other two formats of the game. He added that he would prefer Kane Richardson in the playing XI in place of Cummins. He stated:
“The one person I think is unlucky in that Australian setup is Kane Richardson. I just think he is a very clever skilful T20 bowler. Pat Cummins, we all know what he is capable of doing with the red ball. He is a phenomenal Test bowler, he is a very good 50-over bowler. In T20 cricket, I don’t think he is as good as his reputation in the other formats of the game. So I’d personally definitely be considering Kane Richardson or that second spin-bowling option.”
During the same discussion, Robin Uthappa said that he completely agrees with Moody that Cummins is not a good T20 bowler. He asserted:
“I actually tend to agree with that. I think he is in the [T20I] squad more on reputation than on skills. I think very similar is Steve Smith, he hasn’t cracked the code with T20 cricket. I think they are exceptional One-day and Test match cricketers, but they haven’t really nailed the T20 cricket for themselves.”
