AUS vs NZ: Australia's Predicted Playing XI Against New Zealand- ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12, Group 1, Match 13

Australia take on New Zealand in the first Super 12 match on October 22 from Group 1. It is the 13th match overall in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Australia are the host of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Hence, all the matches will take place at different stadiums spread across the country. Australia are also the defending champions of the tournament who defeated New Zealand in the last year’s T20 World Cup final.

The side is struggling with the fitness of a few key players. Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis are two key players who have question marks over their fitness. Australian skipper Aaron Finch has said that the management is keen on being cautious with them at the moment. Meanwhile, David Warner is expected to play the first game against New Zealand after recovering from the blow he took on his head in the series against England. 

The side has roped in Cameron Green as a last-minute replacement for Josh Inglish who got injured on the golf course and was admitted to the hospital. He took a blow to his right hand that required immediate surgery. Choosing the playing XI against the Kiwis will be a concern given the current fitness of a few players. Aaron Finch (C)

 Finch will open the innings. He scored 76 in the warm-up game against India and looked in good touch. It will be interesting to see how Finch bats in this World Cup.

David Warner 

Warner was the Player of the Series in Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2021. He scored 289 runs. In this edition as well, he needs to have a good campaign with the bat for the Aussies to retain the title. 

Mitchell Marsh 

Marsh was a revolution with the bat in the last T20 World Cup. Since then he has been the preferred number three in the lineup ahead of Steve Smith. Marsh also can chip in with the ball. In case he has fitness issues, Smith can replace him in the lineup. 

Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell has struggled off late with the bat. He has not scored many runs since the India series. However, in this big tournament, Maxwell is always expected to perform. 

Cameron Green 

Green can play the first game against the Kiwis in place of Marcus Stoinis. In the process, the Australian all-rounder will get some more rest and get fit for the remaining matches. 

Tim David 

The hard-hitting David can slot in at number six. He made his debut in the T20I series against India and showed his hitting prowess. He can be one of the star players in this T20 World Cup. 

Matthew Wade (WK)

Along with Warner and Marsh, Wade played a big role in Australia’s World Cup win last year. He has been playing the finisher’s role since the last T20 World Cup and will be entrusted with the same role this time as well. 

Pat Cummins 

Cummins slots in at number eight and extends the Aussie batting lineup. He will be one of the three players in this lineup. 

Josh Hazlewood 

Hazlewood will be the second seamer in this lineup. He has become a much better T20 bowler since the last T20 World Cup. He will be important with the ball for the Aussies. 

Mitchell Starc 

Starc will be the third seamer in this playing XI. The trio will make it difficult for any batting lineup to score off them in this tournament. 

Adam Zampa 

Zampa concludes Australia’s likely playing XI for their game against the Kiwis. He will be the specialist spinner for the Aussies in the first game.
