Pakistan registered their first win of the T20 World Cup 2022 as they defeated the Netherlands in Perth on October 30, 2022, by 6 wickets in a paltry chase of 91 runs. With this victory, the Men in Green have kept their hopes of semi-final qualifications alive.
The Babar Azam-led side won the toss and chose to bowl first at the bouncy Perth pitch. The Netherlands found themselves all at sea against the Pakistan pace attack as they were bundled for 91/9 in 20 overs. Their ace all-rounder Bas de Leede was retired hurt and subbed out after a Haris Rauf short ball gave him a cut under his right eye and gave him a concussion.
Shadab Khan took 3/22, while Mohammad Wasim Jr took two wickets.
In reply, Netherlands got an early wicket as captain Babar Azam was run out for 4 runs, continuing his horror run in the tournament where he had previously scored 0 against India and 4 against Zimbabwe.
But Mohammad Rizwan with 49 off 39 balls, Fakhar Zaman, playing his first match of the tournament, scored 20, while Shan Masood fell for 19 when one run was needed to win. Pakistan ultimately won the match in 13.5 overs with 6 wickets in hand.

However, there was one more match that happened before the Pakistan-Netherlands clash as Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe in a last-ball thriller by 3 runs to go to the second spot in Group 2 of the Super 12s stage.
Bangladesh can clinch a berth in the final four with victories over India and Pakistan over the next week. Bangladesh’s win also keeps Pakistan alive in the race, especially after the latter’s six-wicket win over the Netherlands on Sunday.
Pakistan did themselves a huge favor by winning against the Netherlands and will hope that India beats South Africa in Perth as well. A loss for South Africa will make it tougher for them to go to the final four, as they will next face Pakistan.
A win here for India will almost ensure their semi-final spot, but will also keep Pakistan in the game as well. Pakistan will next face South Africa in Sydney on November 3 and then Bangladesh in Adelaide on November 6.
The Men in Green needs to win all of their remaining matches while hoping India defeats South Africa, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe in their remaining matches as well.
