In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka might pose a danger to India, according to former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir referenced Sri Lanka’s recent victory in the Asia Cup to argue that the island country is at its height right now. During the Super-Four stage of the continental competition in Dubai last month, Sri Lanka defeated India by six wickets.

Sri Lankan Team Will Bring The Confidence Of Asia Cup Into T20 World Cup: Gautam Gambhir

“Sri Lanka, because of the kind of success they have had at the Asia Cup. The way they are playing, the way they are probably peaking at the right time,” Gambhir said while speaking on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’.

“And with Chameera and Lahiru Kumara coming in, they probably got most of their places covered. They are going to be a threat and so they are going to take a lot of confidence in the T20 World Cup.”

No Team Can Be Taken Lightly: Gautam Gambhir

Based on their standings from the previous competition, Sri Lanka is one of the four teams who have advanced to the first round of the T20 World Cup. If they place in the top two in Group A, they would be eligible for the Super 12 stage.

The former cricketer for India also offered advice on how to play each opponent at the T20 World Cup. In the shortest format of the game, any side may produce an upset, according to Gambhir, thus no team should be taken lightly.

“Just like any other game, just like against Pakistan, South Africa or any other game. No team can be taken lightly especially in a format like T20, because in a T20, the shorter the format, any team can upset anyone,” Gambhir said.

On October 23 in Melbourne, India will face its bitter rival Pakistan in the Super-12 round of the T20 World Cup.
