Former India National Cricket Team player Madan Lal, who was a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad, slammed the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies National Cricket Team after they got knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
On Friday, October 21, the Ireland National Cricket Team thrashed the West Indies National Cricket Team by 9 wickets in the Round 1 match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart to storm into the Super-12 round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Also, with the win, they knocked the two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies National Cricket Team out of the tournament.

Winning the toss and batting first, West Indies posted 146/5 on the board. Brandon King top-scored for his side with 62 runs under his belt. Defending the target, West Indies bowlers failed miserably and the Ireland top-3 – Andrew Balbirnie, Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker – batted brilliantly to help their side win the do-or-die encounter.
After the match, former India all-rounder Madan Lal took to Twitter to bash the West Indies National Cricket Team players for their poor performance and skipper Pooran for his “disappointing” captaincy.
“West Indies first time not qualified for the World Cup. The players are happy playing T20 leagues all over the world but no pride playing for their own country. Very disappointing how Pooran has led the side #T20WorldCup2022,” Madan Lal tweeted.

We have disappointed our fans and ourselves, It’s definitely hurting – Nicholas Pooran
During the post-match presentation ceremony, the extremely dejected Nicholas Pooran admitted that the West Indies have not batted well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He said:
“It’s tough, we haven’t batted well in this tournament at all. On a really good batting surface, making 145, it’s a really difficult task for the bowlers. It was going to be a challenge. Congratulations to Ireland, they batted fantastically and bowled well today.”
Pooran further pinpointed a few postives before stating that he has disappointed his side with his poor performance in the tournament. He asserted:
“There are a lot of positives, Jason is back to bowling well, King is batting wonderfully, Joseph is stepping up with the ball for us. This is a learning experience for us. We have disappointed our fans and ourselves. It’s definitely hurting. I have disappointed my guys with the way I performed.”
