ICC T20 World Cup 2022: "Pleased And Surprised By Dinesh Karthik's Comeback In Indian Side"- Ricky Ponting

Indian Cricket Team has been in rollicking form at the moment. Their recent triumphs against Australia and South Africa have been magnificent where the team has covered all their bases. The Team has started to peak at the perfect time and now is looking at a threatening unit
Dinesh Karthik’s resurgence has meant that the team has found a reliable finisher. Karthik would be delighted as no one had expected him to make it to the India squad after the 2019 World Cup. It would be interesting to see whether the management gives him a long rope as chopping and changing won’t work at this time.
Ricky Ponting on Dinesh Karthik
Ricky Ponting was having an interaction with ICC and was asked about Dinesh Karthik. “It looked like his Indian career was over, probably in all three formats. He was not a retained player for KKR in IPL. Today, is one of the best finishers in the T20 game which he probably never really thought to be. I thought his playing days were over and he was transferring himself to the commentary box. But he was transforming the other way. I am pleased and quite surprised at the way he had turned his career in the last couple of months.” said Ponting.
Conundrum for Management
Head Coach Rahul Dravid and Skipper Rohit Sharma would be well aware of the fact that they can’t play both Pant and Karthik. Rishabh Pant is someone who can bat in the middle overs phase and can rattle the opposition with his attacking mindset.
On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik is suitable for the death overs phase only. The management will have to be spot on with their selection as the billion people can’t afford a similar edition to 2021 where the team was completely outplayed.
