Afghanistan Cricket Team is placed in a dangerous group in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They are placed with Australia, England, and New Zealand (and the other two teams from qualifiers). They have a great opportunity to upset one of these three teams and create a name for themselves.

Afghanistan would be banking on their batters to shine on the stage as they have got a lot of power hitters present in the form of Nabi and Najibullah. Afghanistan was very close in the 2021 edition to qualifying for the semi-final stage as they showed a lot of character but they succumbed to pressure.

ACB on Rahmanullah Gurbaz

In Afghanistan’s Warm-up Match against Pakistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz got an in-swinging Yorker from Shaheen Afridi on his foot. It looked as if the batter would be ruled out of the tournament but ACB has released a statement. “Team doctor stated that the results are clear with no bone fracture. He will be assessed in the next two days and is expected to be available for our England fixture on Saturday,” said ACB.

Great Chance for Afghanistan

Afghanistan would be aware of the fact that spin won’t be a huge factor in Australia. But it seems unlikely that Afghanistan will change their strategy as their spinners can wrap up the overs quite quickly. Skipper Nabi should come up in the batting order as he is someone who can hold one end by playing the waiting game.

The role of Rashid Khan would be vital as his 4 overs are quite decisive. Afghanistan would be banking on Nabi & Rashid as both know the conditions of Australia quite well due to BBL. It would be interesting to see whether Afghanistan can spring a surprise on their opening clash against England on 22nd October (Saturday).
