ICC T20 World Cup 2022: "They Obviously Only Have Themselves To Blame" - Ricky Ponting On Australia

The Australian Cricket Team is on the edge of getting knocked out of the tournament. The Defending Champions lost their first match against New Zealand by a huge margin of 89 runs. The team has looked a bit off-color and it won’t be wrong to say that the form of David Warner has been a concern.
Australia would be disappointed if they don’t make the Semi-Finals as they were considered red-hot favorites for the tournament. The pacers haven’t been able to pick wickets at regular intervals and especially at the death overs, they haven’t been effective.

Ricky Ponting on Australia
Ricky Ponting made some interesting comments on the Australian Cricket Team.
“I thought that everything was just sort of aligning itself quite nicely for the Aussies to make it through. But even their form coming in wasn’t great either with the lead-up that they had, and they did play a lot of T20 games coming here. So there can’t be any excuse as far as preparation is concerned,” said Ricky Ponting.

“I think Australia have been just that little bit off in probably all departments, to be honest. They’ve been a little bit sloppy in the field. A lot of their bowling hasn’t been great, and their batters probably haven’t scored the runs that they should have either – particularly probably at the top of the order.
“If they don’t make it through, they obviously only have themselves to blame,” he added.
Steep Challenge for Australia
Australia not only requires a big win against Afghanistan on 4th November but they would be hoping that England or New Zealand lose their last match. Australia’s NRR is -0.304 whereas England’s NRR is +0.54. England will have an advantage as their match is on 5th November against Sri Lanka.

Australia though has a lot of injury concerns as there is uncertainty over Aaron Finch who is not yet 100% fit for the fit. There are chances that Matthew Wade will captain the side and Steven Smith will get a game in place of Finch.
