Wanindu Hasaranga, a leg-spinner, is expected to pose a significant threat to the opposition at the T20 World Cup Down Under, as per legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.
With nine wickets in the Asia Cup 2022, Hasaranga demonstrated why he is undoubtedly one of the top bowlers in the competition.
In Australia, the pitches typically do not offer finger-spinners significant turn. Muttiah Muralitharan believes that wrist spinners like Hasaranga will be able to make use of the available turn and bounce at this point.
Before the start of the Legends League Cricket, Muttiah Muralitharan discussed the prominent spinner with reporters as follows:
“A fantastic T20 bowler, he. He is done pretty well the last two to three years. The man is young. The leg spinner will undoubtedly have more opportunities in Australia than the finger spinner. He will be challenging to bat against. You must be cautious around him.”
Muttiah Muralitharan discusses Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup victory:
At the beginning of the 2022 Asia Cup, Sri Lanka was not seen as the favourite. Muttiah Muralitharan emphasized that the Lankan Lions excelled despite being a young squad to win the competition:
“We recently had a fairly youthful team, and we played our best cricket in the Asia Cup. They appeared to be the greatest team and were deserving of the Asia Cup victory.”
“Likewise, we are eager for the World Cup. Although they are strong, we must play the qualifiers to get to the main round. In the previous few years, we did not perform well enough to gain direct admission. But right now, I have a tonne of confidence in my ability to perform well at the World Cup as well.”
Despite their Asia Cup win, Sri Lanka will still need to play the T20 World Cup qualifiers.
