IND vs ENG: Will Dinesh Karthik Replace Rishabh Pant In India's Playing XI For The T20 World Cup Semi-Final Against England? Harbhajan Singh Gives His Decision

Who should keep wickets for India in the semi-final: Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik? In the run-up to the climactic match at the T20 World Cup 2022, legendary cricketer Harbhajan Singh has provided an answer to the burning question.

The seasoned gloveman Dinesh Karthik was the wicketkeeper of choice for the Rohit Sharma-led Team India in their first four games of the Super 12 stage at the T20 World Cup 2022. He was brought in as a designated finisher. Prior to their last group game match against Zimbabwe, India had already qualified for the semi-final round. As a result, the Indian think tank decided to surprise everyone by starting Rishabh Pant in instead of Karthik.

The Indian southpaw, though, had a forgettable day at the workplace as he struggled for Team India in their final Super 12 match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Indian captain Rohit said that both Pant and Karthik are equal candidates to play for India in the high-profile match against England on Thursday. The match is in the semi-final round of the T20 World Cup.

On the eve of the second semi-final, famous Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shared his thoughts on India’s selection conundrum and outlined why Pant should keep his spot in the starting XI.

“I believe Rishabh Pant will start ahead of Dinesh Karthik.” DK hasn’t been in the finest of shape, as they’ve witnessed. He hasn’t looked as good as he did in the IPL. Of course, he is a very talented and hardworking player. However, things have not gone his way at this World Cup. “Unfortunately, he has to sit today, and I believe Pant will play,” Harbhajan told Star Sports.

A day before to India’s semi-final match against the Jos Buttler-led team, Pant played in the main nets while senior wicketkeeper-batter Karthik was seen training in the indoor zone.

 “In the middle order, they need a left-hander. So that’s another reason for Pant to come into the team. They won’t change the team, Pant will be playing ahead of DK. Earlier, we were talking about if Ashwin will take a break or Chahal will play. I don’t think that’s gonna happen, Rishabh will play and that’s the only change,” Harbhajan added.

India will lock horns with England in the 2nd Semi Final of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, 10th of November.
