Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has already indicated his interest in contesting for the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president after his tenure as the BCCI president comes to an end. As the first step in the battle, he was expected to submit his nomination papers on Saturday, but said that he wasn’t sure whether the elections for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) would go ahead this year.

As of Saturday, October 23, Ganguly had not filed his nomination for CAB president. He said he did not know if anyone else would contest the top spot. The deadline for the submission of nominations for the CAB elections has been extended by one day to October 23.

The former India captain served as the CAB’s president from 2015 to 2019. Ganguly is expected to succeed Avishek Dalmiya as CAB chairman. The deadline for filing nominations has been extended by a day.

Nominations can only be submitted by 5 pm, but Sourav arrived at the CAB after six pm due to “traffic snarls.” However, it is unclear whether he will file his nomination given the current circumstances.

“We will see tomorrow,” the former BCCI president said on Saturday, after meeting some CAB officials, when asked if he would file the nomination on Sunday, the deadline.

“I don’t know who else is submitting the nomination. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the last day. Let’s see. I don’t know whether the election will be held or not. We will see what happens,” Ganguly said on Saturday.

The 50-year-old’s tenure as the BCCI president ended on October 18 as World Cup-winning all-rounder Roger Binny was unanimously elected as the board’s president.

Current CAB President Avishek Dalmiya has been elected as one of the representatives of the Indian Premier League Governing Council. Ganguly’s brother, Snehashish Ganguly, was expected to contest the CAB polls, but the former India cricketer’s confirmation changed the equation.
