India and Pakistan engaged in a thrilling encounter with momentum swinging from one side to the other, which was decided on the last ball of the match. India defeated Pakistan by four wickets in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in front of 90,000 fans at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23.
Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 82 off 53 balls to chase down the 160-run target from India was reduced to 31 for 4. Former Indian skipper and Hardik Pandya made an excellent partnership of 113 runs for the fifth wicket. Pandya scored 40 crucial runs and took 3 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs quota. India successfully chased down the 160-run target against Pakistan with 4 wickets in hand.
With 16 runs needed in the final over, both Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were well set at the crease. Nawaz started the over by dismissing Pandya before Kohli hit him for a six off the fourth delivery, which was adjudged as a high-waist no-ball. The left-arm spinner managed to knock off the stumps on the next delivery, but after Kohli and Dinesh Karthik completed three runs, the ball deflected off the stumps and went into the gap between the fielder at gully and the wicketkeeper.
Soon after the incident, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, along with a few of his teammates, surrounded the umpire and expressed dissatisfaction over the three runs that India took during the process. However, the umpire signalled it as byes, following which a few fans and experts took to social media, raising questions if it was as per the rule.
Pakistani players Need To Have Better Understanding Of The Laws – Salman Butt
Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt has opined on cricketing rules and laws on YouTube. However, instead of questioning the decision, he slammed the Pakistani players and said that they should take classes to understand the laws better.
“Pakistani players need to have a better understanding of the laws. We have umpires like Aleem Dar and Hasan Raza, along with other officials who can help the team with that.”
“The players should take these classes and clear their doubts by asking questions. Because while these scenarios are rare, they can occur anytime in pressure situations,” said Butt in the video.
India will play their next match against the Netherlands in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup T20 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SGC) on Thursday, October 27. Pakistan will play against Zimbabwe at the Optus Stadium, Perth, on the same day.
