Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary batsman, is pleased to see Rohit Sharma, the India skipper, score some important runs against the Netherlands in the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2022.

The flamboyant opener had a disappointing game against Pakistan in the opening match as he was dismissed for just 4. Rohit has not been playing at his best lately and only scored two half-centuries prior to the start of the T20 WC. But the 34-year-old recovered against the Netherlands, scoring 53 runs off just 39 balls.

Rohit’s performance this year has been hampered by his inability to turn his 20s and 30s into half-centuries or significant scores. After taking some time to settle in, the Indian captain played his shots to record his third half-century in T20Is this year.

After a weak performance against Pakistan, Sunil Gavaskar said it was encouraging to watch players like Rohit, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel perform on Thursday.

“Let’s talk about how India is constructing. It was great to see Rohit Sharma get some runs the other day, and it was great to see Arshdeep bowl like that. Axar Patel and Ashwin both took wickets. So, everyone who didn’t have a great game against Pakistan has recovered well,” Sunil Gavaskar was quoted as stating to India Today.

“KL Rahul is a class act”: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned batsman, said that KL Rahul’s poor performance in this tournament is the only thing that should worry India:

“Now the main issue maybe would be around KL Rahul, who didn’t score too many runs in both matches. But he is a class act,” Gavaskar added.

In their upcoming match on Sunday against South Africa, Rohit and company will need to maintain their winning streak in order to guarantee their position in the semifinals. He will face a difficult assignment because South Africa has been playing well in this competition and has a strong pace attack that can take advantage of the Australian conditions.

The Pakistan cricket squad will also be closely watching the India vs. South Africa game in the hopes that the arch-rivals will win, which would make their case for the semifinal round much easier.
