India are gearing up for the T20 World Cup in Australia later in the year. The team management had already got the impression of their probable players for the mega event and they are giving them opportunities to play as many games.

Since the Virat Kohli-led side was knocked out from the group stage of the previous edition in UAE, there has been a new captain in Rohit Sharma and a new coach in Rahul Dravid at the helm. India have won bilateral series against New Zealand (3-0), West Indies (3-0), Sri Lanka (3-0), Ireland (2-0) and England (2-1). The only series they drew 2-2 was against South Africa at home last month.

Does India have its squad prepared for the T20 World Cup 2022?

With just close to three months left for the showpiece event, it is the right time for the Indian think tank to jot down the names of the best performers who will fly to Australia in October. India will play five T20I matches against West Indies before the Asia Cup in August- September.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the front-runners for opening the innings just like they did in the previous edition while Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad could be the backup players for the role.

Suryakumar Yadav, who hit his maiden T20I century against England in Nottingham, has strongly cemented his position at No.4. Virat Kohli’s form has been the talking point over the year with reports suggesting that the Indian batter might not be considered for T20 World Cup squad by the selectors.

Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Iyer could serve as the alternatives to the veteran player at No.3. The former has made giant strides since scoring 100 against Ireland in the second T20I in Dublin last month. Hardik Pandya’s return to form, particularly with the ball, makes him the likeliest to secure the all-rounder’s spot ahead of Venkatesh Iyer, who hasn’t played a T20I match since February. Hardik and Jadeja could play as all-rounders in the team with Axar Patel as a backup in the given role.

India’s predicted playing XI for T20 World Cup 2022

With Rishabh Pant being under the scanner in the shortest format and the rise of senior player Dinesh Karthik gives selectors another headache to decide who will keep the wickets. However, Karthik can still play in the team purely as a finisher even if Pant dons the keeper’s gloves.

Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Harshal Patel could form a petrifying pace bowling unit for their opponents. Young guns like Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, and Arshdeep Singh will also be considered in the squad based on their performance in the matches until Asia Cup.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi will contend for the lone spinner’s place in the team given that Australian conditions favour bounce, and Jadeja or Axar could play as other spin bowling option. We have prepared a list of India’s playing XI with alternatives for the T20 World Cup Down Under.
