New Zealand take on Ireland in match 37 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide on October 4. The Kiwis lost their previous match against England on November 1 Ireland, on the other hand, lost to Sri Lanka and Australia after beating England. 

The Group 1 points table is tight at the moment with New Zealand, Australia and England all on five points. All the teams have played four games each and have a game remaining. England beating New Zealand in their previous game means that all the top three teams need to win their last game to make it to the semis. The NRR is will be crucial for all three teams.

New Zealand

New Zealand lost their previous game against England by 20 runs to keep both England and Australia alive in the T20 World Cup. They were the only unbeaten team heading into this contest but after their loss, no team is unbeaten now in the tournament. The Kiwis reached 159 chasing 180 to win. 

The match was about individual brilliance with Glenn Phillips scoring 62 off 36 balls. Skipper Kane Williamson also scored 60 but was not able to put an impact. The Kiwis have an NRR of +2.233 while England have +0.547. Australia are also on five points but have a negative NRR.

Ireland have everything to play for against the Kiwis. A win ill take them to five points and take them to the top three. If they manage to get their NRR into positive they might even replace Australia from the number three spot. The side so far has won matches on individual brilliance. Against the Kiwis, they will have to play together as a unit and try to get past New Zealand. 

Lorcan Tucker has done most of the scoring in the Super 12 stage. He is second on the run-scoters list with 191 runs. Josh Little with 9 wickets is the only Ireland bowler in the top 10. Ireland’s approach against the Kiwis will be an interesting observation.
