Salman Butt thinks that in the T20 World Cup 2022 championship match on Sunday, November 13, England totally outplayed Pakistan.
The Men in Green didn’t score enough runs in the summit match, according to the former Pakistan captain, which made their bowling unit’s job difficult. He thought that if Babar Azam and the company had batted better, the outcome may have been a little bit different.
Pakistani Bowlers Did Put Up A Strong Fight: Salman Butt
Salman Butt praised the Pakistani bowlers for preventing the English hitters from making a mockery of the meagre aim. Following the T20 World Cup 2022 championship, he made these comments in a video posted to his YouTube channel. He explained:
“England outclassed Pakistan in all departments. I have always maintained that the contest was going to be between Pakistan bowling and England batting. The same happened today, as Pakistan didn’t score enough runs.
“The bowlers would have been more effective if they had a better total to defend. However, the Pakistani bowlers did put up a strong fight, dismissing five batters and taking it to the 19th over.”
At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Pakistan was asked to bat first and finished at 137/8 in 20 overs (MCG). Both captain Babar Azam (32) and Shan Masood (38) got off to respectable starts, but the other batsmen were unable to have a big influence.
Pakistan Were At least 20-25 Runs Short: Salman Butt
Salman Butt continued by stating that the majority of Pakistani batters lost their wickets while attempting to hit huge shots. Given how challenging it was to hit across the line on this particular pitch, he indicated that it wasn’t the best strategy.
The 38-year-old made it clear that players had to have stressed using good cricketing strokes on a challenging wicket. He asserted that the team’s failure to finish their innings quickly was due to the batters’ desire to drag it out. He added:
“Pakistan were at least 20 to 25 runs short. The wicket wasn’t such that you could hit it through the line, as the ball was seaming a bit. Batters from both teams found it difficult on this surface.
“You had to play proper cricket, as Shah Masood did. When we were in a position where we needed to score 50 to 55 runs in the final six overs, they again tried to play big shots.”
Salman Butt emphasised how Pakistan struggled to stop Adil Rashid and was unable to intercept his googly. He made a note of how even Babar lost his wicket due to his inability to read the leg spinner’s incorrect delivery. He remarked:
“We have been repeating the same mistakes. The Pakistani batters aren’t able to pick the googly. Even Babar Azam was undone by that today. He tried to play the cut shot, but ended up losing his wicket.”
For the second time, the Buttler-led team won the match with a brilliant five-wicket victory to claim the coveted trophy. With an unbeaten score of 52, Ben Stokes assisted his team in completing the total in 19 overs.
