Pakistan takes on England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final on Sunday, November 13 in Melbourne. Both teams are previous winners of the tournament and this will be their third T20 World Cup final. Pakistan won the title back in 2009 followed by England in 2010. The PAK vs ENG World Cup final is in many ways a rematch of the 1992 World Cup final which was won by Pakistan.
England hammered India by 10 wickets in Adelaide on Thursday to set up the final date with England. Jos Buttler led by example as he scored an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls and along with Alex Hales (86* off 47) chased the target of 169 in just 16 overs. The unbeaten 170 run-stand between Buttler and Hales is the best opening partnership in T20 World Cups ever. This is also the second-highest partnership for any wicket in T20Is against India.
Buttler and Hales took a liking to all the Indian bowlers with four of them going for an economy of over 10. The Indian bowlers were not able to break the opening stand. With enough assistance from the spinners in Adelaide, the call to bench Yuzvendra Chahal in this game became the talking point after India’s loss. Chahal was benched throughout the tournament.
India after a good Super 12 stage faltered in the semi-final. The England bowlers restricted them to a par total of 168. The inability of the Indian openers to give consistent starts has been a major concern for the Indian team. Despite the fifties from Virat Kohli (50) and Hardik Pandya (63*) The Men in Blue put up a below-par score on the board.
England and Pakistan are now in the finals. Both teams have played each other very often in T20Is in the last couple of years. Very recently England went to Pakistan for a seven-match T20I series. The PAK ve ENG series was closely fought with England winning the series 4-3 at last.
