PAK vs ENG: Jos Buttler, Babar Azam Pick Suryakumar Yadav, Shadab Khan As Their T20 World Cup 2022 Player Of The Tournament

England National Cricket Team captain Jos Buttler and Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Babar Azam have picked their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Player of the tournament ahead of the summit clash.

The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to be played between the Three Lions and the Men In Green at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, November 13.

Speaking ahead of the blockbuster final, Buttler said that the star India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has been the Player of the Tournament for him because of his “incredibly eye-catching” game in the marquee tournament. He added that the England players – Alex Hales and Sam Curran – are also strong contenders for the award.

“I think Suryakumar Yadav. I think Suryakumar for me has been someone who’s played with extreme freedom. He’s been incredibly eye-catching to watch in such a star-studded line-up. To stand out the way he has is amazing.

“Of course, there’s a couple of our guys on that sheet as well – Sam Curran and Alex Hales. If they put in a great performance in the final, they can be the Player of the Tournament for me,” Buttler during a special segment with Sanjana Ganesan ahead of the final, as quoted by ICC.

The No.1 ranked T20I batter Suryakumar has smashed 239 runs in 6 World Cup innings at an amazing average of 59.75 and an exceptional strike rate of 189.68.

It should be Shadab Khan for the way he is playing – Babar Azam

When asked the same question, Pakistan captain Babar Azam responded that the spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan should be the Player of the Tournament because of his enormous contribution in all three departments.

“I think it should be Shadab Khan for the way he is playing,” Babar said.

“While his bowling has been outstanding, his batting also improved quite a bit. His dominating performances in the last three games along with his outstanding fielding makes him a prime contender for the Player of the Tournament.”

All-rounder Shadab has bagged 10 wickets in six matches at an economy of 6.59 and with the bat, his major contribution came during Pakistan’s must-win contest against South Africa in Sydney.

Notably, Suryakumar and Shadab are among the 9 players nominated for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Player of the Tournament. Among the finalists, three nominees are from England and two nominees are from Pakistan. The remaining players are from India (2), Zimbabwe (1) and Sri Lanka (1) and the fans will get the chance to vote and decide the winner.
