Legendary India National Cricket Team player Sachin Tendulkar, who is regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time, has said that the summit clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 would have been “even more interesting” had Shaheen Shah Afridi completed his 4-over spell.
Pakistan National Cricket Team pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi had sustained a knee injury while taking a catch at the long off to dismiss England National Cricket Team batter Harry Brook in the 13th over of the innings. After taking the catch, Afridi looked in discomfort and he walked off the field to receive some treatment.
However, he returned to the field to bowl in the 16th over of the innings with England still needing 41 runs off the last 30 balls to win the match. Afridi, who was struggling to walk, delivered a wide yorker to Moeen Ali on the first ball, but he was unable to continue and was taken off the field.
Part-timer Iftikhar Ahmed was brought in to bowl the remaining deliveries of Afridi’s over and he ended up conceding a four and a six on the last two deliveries. That over was a game-changing one as the boundaries shifted the momentum towards England.
It was a closely fought final – Sachin Tendulkar
After the match, legendary India National Cricket Team batter Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to state that the summit clash was “closely fought.” He also congratulated Jos Buttler & Co. and called their World Cup victory a “fantastic achievement”.
“Congratulations England on winning your 2nd @T20WorldCup. Fantastic achievement. It was a closely fought final and would’ve been even more interesting had Afridi not been injured. What a roller coaster of a World Cup,” posted Tendulkar on Twitter.

Notably, Ben Stokes’ performance with the bat during the run-chase and Sam Curran’s heroics with the ball in the first innings guided the Three Lions to a 5-wicket win in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
The 24-year-old left-arm pacer Sam Curran finished his spell with the figures of 4-0-12 -3 and Ben Stokes scored 52 runs off 49 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six.
