Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie was over the moon after taking his side to the Super 12s. He scored a crucial 37 against West Indies to lay the platform for Paul Stirling’s knock to take them through to the next stage.

“It (win) means everything. We had a disappointing loss last year at the same stage. We did a lot of thinking and a lot of things changed back home. New coach and there were a couple of things that we wanted to do as a team, the way we wanted to play. Losing the first game and then coming back and beating a two-time champion in a must-win game … just couldn’t be prouder. Pretty emotional finish to the game, but we are just delighted as a group. A lot of things can happen on your day in T20 cricket. We could be playing our next game here, we’ve played three here and that could be in our favour. We want to pit ourselves against the best” said Balbirnie after Ireland advanced through to the Super 12s.

Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka is eyeing another trophy to his cabinet after leading the team to be Asia Cup champions. The team is pitted in a tough group.

“We knew that when we came to the World Cup we would be the favourites in this group. Unfortunately we missed out in the first game, but we regrouped and we came back strong. Credit to all the boys,” Shanka said after their win over the Netherlands.
