Pakistan suffered a five-wicket loss in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final. The Babar Azam-led side managed to score 137/8, and England chased down the target with six balls to spare. Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 off 49 balls to lead the team to victory. Sam Curran, who was adjudged Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament, took three wickets.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan entered the tournament as the most dangerous partnership in the format. The openers, who added 105 runs for the first wicket against New Zealand in the semifinals, failed in the final.
Mohammad Rizwan scored only 15 runs off 14 balls and was dismissed off the bowling of Sam Curran. Adil Rashid, who had troubled Babar Azam, dismissed him once again.
Babar And Rizwan Completely Wasted The First Six Overs – Danish Kaneria
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria stated that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed to provide an ideal start. The 41-year-old feels that both batsmen were making the same mistakes over and over again.
“The way Pakistan played in the final was very poor. Poor captaincy from Babar Azam. The way Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan started with the bat was also quite disappointing. There was a clear lack of intent from the batters. It was a 170-run wicket, and they needed to score close to that,” Danish Kaneira said.
“The way Babar and Rizwan batted during the powerplay, I mean, what were they doing? They completely wasted the first six overs. Rizwan got out to Sam Curran after getting an inside edge. This is not the first time he has got out in this fashion,” he added.
Shan Masood Made The Most Of The Big Ground – Danish Kaneria
Kaneria said that Shan Masood was the team’s only saviour, scoring runs at a good strike rate. The left-handed batsman was the top scorer for Pakistan with 38 runs off 28 balls.
“Pakistan came back into the game thanks to Shan Masood’s knock. He made the most of the big ground with singles and doubles. I knew when I was watching the game that they were going to score somewhere between 135 and 140. There was no way they could have scored more, as they looked very scared.”
