Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second and final Test of the series in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Sri Lanka recorded a 192-run victory in the second Test, securing a clean sweep in their first away series in the ongoing WTC cycle.

The Sri Lankan bowlers dismissed the opposition for 318 runs in the final innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday, April 3. Although the Bangladesh batters performed admirably with the bat, they fell short of the 511-run target.

Kamindu Mendis was the architect of Sri Lanka’s Test series win against Bangladesh. Mendis was named ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ for his contributions. He scored an unbeaten 92 in the first innings. He took three wickets for 32 in the final innings.

Sri Lanka ascended from fifth to fourth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings following a dominant win over Bangladesh today. With four Test matches completed in the new WTC cycle, the Islanders now hold a point percentage of 50.00% in their tally.

Bangladesh have dropped from sixth to seventh position after the loss at the hands of Sri Lanka. Their points percentage has reduced from 33.33 to 25.00. Before the start of the series at home, Bangladesh were in fourth place with a points percentage of 50.

Team India tops the nine-team points table with a point percentage of 68.51. Australia, the defending champions, holds second place with 62.50% points to their name. The New Zealand cricket team maintains third place with a point percentage of 50.

Pakistan has dropped to fifth position due to Sri Lanka’s decline. Pakistan’s point percentage stands at 36.67%. The West Indies hold the sixth position with 33.33% points. The England team is in the last spot in the table with 17.5% points after their two series.

Sri Lanka Secure 192-run Victory In Second Test

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 531 runs in the first innings. Kusal Mendis scored 93 runs off 150 balls, while Dimuth Karunaratne contributed 86 runs off 129 deliveries. Kamindu Mendis fell just 8 runs short of securing his third century in the Test series.

The visiting team restricted the Bangladesh team to 178 runs, taking a mammoth lead of 353 runs after the first innings. Asitha Fernando claimed four wickets for 34 runs, while Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Prabath Jayasuriya each took two wickets.

The Dhananjaya de Silva-led team declared their second innings at 157 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Angelo Mathews was the top scorer for his team, contributing 56 runs. Hasan Mahmud took four wickets for 65 runs, while Khaled Ahmed recorded figures of 2-34.
